Flint Hills Extension District #13
K-State Research and Extension

The Flint Hills Extension District is a branch of K-State Research and Extension.  Extension programs present educational information related to agriculture and natural resources, family and consumer sciences, 4-H youth development, and community development.

We serve the people of Morris and Chase Counties, and we have offices located in Council Grove and Cottonwood Falls.

Our philosophy is to help people help themselves by taking university knowledge to where people live, work, and play.  We work at being responsive to the needs of the people by focusing our resources on providing quality information, education, and problem-solving programs for real concern.  The information we provide is researched based and unbiased.

NEW Agriculture and Natural Resources/4-H Agent in the Council Grove Office

WELCOME Shannon Ney!

Shannon Ney

Hello everyone! I am so excited to serve as the Agriculture and Natural Resources/4-H Youth Development extension agent for the Flint Hills District!

I wanted to make a short bio so that all the families and people in the community could get to know me better. I grew up in Russell, KS on a 50 head cow/calf operation. I come from a long generation of farmers so as I was growing up, I knew the livestock industry was where I belong. I was a 13-year 4-H member in Russell County which is part of the Midway District and held an office almost every year in my club. I was a part of the Russell FFA chapter serving as a club officer as well as a district officer for the Northwest FFA District. I attended Kansas State University all four years where I majored in Animal Sciences and Industry while also being a College of Agriculture Ambassador and a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. During my time in college, I was able to serve as both a volunteer and as an intern for the Midway Extension District where I was able to see that extension was where I wanted to make my full-time career. I love working with youth and sharing my passion for agriculture with them. To me, it is important to share with youth why agriculture is important and show them that they are the future. Without the young individuals, agriculture advancements would not be able to grow.

I cannot wait to meet everyone and am looking forward to sharing my love for 4-H and agriculture with the individuals in the Flint Hills District and cannot wait to see their agriculture passion grow!
